

Clementine Mukandayishimiye is a dedicated and driven second-year student in the Department of Social Work at the University of Rwanda. With a deep passion for addressing social issues, human rights, and community development, she has excelled academically while demonstrating a strong commitment to making a meaningful impact on society. Her academic foundation is rooted in social welfare policies, ethics, and human behavior, allowing her to integrate theoretical knowledge with practical applications in the field of social work.
Beyond her studies, Clementine is a committed advocate for social change who actively seeks opportunities to contribute to her community. She is a volunteer with the Friends of Motherland Initiative (FMI “Ubumuntu”), an organization dedicated to social development and community empowerment. Through this role, she collaborates with fellow volunteers to drive positive change, implement impactful projects, and support vulnerable populations. This hands-on experience enhances her understanding of social work in action and deepens her commitment to serving others.
Clementine’s dedication to volunteerism extends to her past experiences. In 2023, she participated in Urugerero, a government-led community service program, in Kinyababa Sector, Bugamba Cell, Burera District, from December through April. During this period, she actively contributed to various community development initiatives aimed at improving local infrastructure and social welfare. Additionally, she served as a primary school teacher at EP Kayenzi 2 in Kagogo Sector, Burera District, for one to three months in 2023, where she helped educate and inspire young students.
Clementine's involvement in the Pan-African movement between 2020 and 2022 in Murambi Sector, Rurindo District, at G.S. APAPEC Murambi, provided her with an opportunity to engage in critical discussions on Pan-Africanism and its role in shaping the social and economic future of Africa. Her participation in this movement reinforced her passion for social justice, equity, and African unity.
During vacation periods, Clementine extended her community service efforts by volunteering at Butaro Hospital, where she visited patients, provided emotional support, and assisted hospital staff. This experience strengthened her interpersonal skills and reinforced her dedication to improving community well-being.
Through her academic and volunteer experiences, Clementine has developed key skills in communication, leadership, problem-solving, and community engagement. She remains eager to integrate theoretical knowledge with practical applications in social work and to continue her growth as a professional in the field.
Looking ahead, Clementine aspires to deepen her expertise in social work, particularly in areas such as social policy or clinical practice, with the goal of enhancing the lives of individuals and communities in need. Through her unwavering dedication to social service and advocacy, she hopes to become a catalyst for positive social change in Rwanda and beyond.
