Friends of Motherland Initiative “Ubumuntu” is a national non-governmental organization (NGO) dedicated to reducing poverty, advocating for vulnerable groups of people, and improving the well-being of marginalized communities. The organization promotes inclusive, high-quality formal and informal education for children, empowers youth and women through social and economic development initiatives, and supports climate change adaptation and environmental sustainability programs that strengthen community resilience. The organization also works closely with committed volunteers who play a vital role in facilitating organization day-to-day activities and community interventions.

How do we work?

Inclusive Education & Child Development Program
Purpose: Every child is learning, protected, and reaching their potential.
This program promotes school access, retention, learning recovery, inclusive education, disability inclusion, child protection, life skills, talent development, parent engagement, remedial learning, education materials, and pathways to TVET and lifelong learning.
Health, Nutrition & Community Well-being Program
Purpose: Healthy children, healthy families, thriving communities.
This program focuses on nutrition, menstrual health, sexual and reproductive health education, WASH, mental health and psychosocial well-being, substance-abuse prevention, community health awareness, and household food and nutrition security.
Gender Equality, Protection & Social Inclusion Program
Purpose: Equal rights, dignity, protection, and opportunity for all.
This program advances women’s and girls’ empowerment, disability inclusion, safeguarding, prevention of gender-based violence, child protection, human rights, positive parenting, community dialogue, and transformation of harmful social and gender norms.
Sustainable Livelihoods & Economic Empowerment Program
Purpose: From vulnerability to self-reliance.
This program strengthens vulnerable households, youth, and women through graduation approaches, entrepreneurship, savings, financial literacy, vocational and employability skills, youth employment, livelihood diversification, and market-linked economic opportunities.
Climate Resilience, Agroecology & Environmental Action Program
Purpose: Resilient communities, sustainable food systems, and a healthier environment.
This program promotes agroecology, climate-smart agriculture, environmental education, tree planting, ecosystem restoration, soil and water conservation, green skills, youth climate action, food security, and community-based climate adaptation.
