CYIZA Edmond is a second-year Social Work student at the University of Rwanda, Huye Campus. His academic journey is deeply influenced by his passion for community service and social transformation, driving his commitment to making a meaningful impact on society.
After completing his secondary education in 2022, CYIZA Edmond actively participated in the URUGERERO Program, a national voluntary initiative aimed at fostering social and economic development. During his six-month service, he contributed to various community projects, including repairing and reconstructing houses, building kitchen gardens (akarima kigikoni), and engaging in physical activities to improve community well-being. His dedication to voluntary work highlighted his deep commitment to social responsibility.
Eager to expand his knowledge and skills, CYIZA Edmond engaged in multiple training programs. In January 2022, he attended a Women Empowerment training organized by NGOs, where he gained insights into the importance of women’s representation in decision-making bodies to build inclusive societies. In May 2023, he participated in a Unity and Resilience in Rwanda training, which emphasized the role of communication, community support, and collective problem-solving in fostering national unity.
His commitment to social change extends to environmental advocacy. In December 2023, he attended the Youth Climate Dialogue Series at COP 28, organized by Green Protector, where he acquired crucial knowledge about environmental protection. This experience reinforced his dedication to finding sustainable solutions to environmental challenges. Additionally, in November 2023, he participated in Mental Health Training by Solid Mind, where he deepened his understanding of mental well-being, focusing on prevention, treatment, and reducing stigma surrounding mental health issues.
Beyond community service and advocacy, CYIZA Edmond has also developed digital and leadership skills. In 2023, he earned a Digital Technology Skills Certificate from the University of Rwanda, equipping him with essential competencies in communication, problem-solving, and digital productivity while addressing the digital divide. That same year, he completed a leadership training program organized by the African Youth Leadership Foundation (AYLF), preparing him for future leadership roles in his community.
His passion for volunteerism has led him to several impactful initiatives. In 2023, he became a University of Rwanda Youth Volunteer, gaining hands-on experience in tackling social issues within his community. He also volunteered with Nkurage for Charity Organizations (NFCO), an experience that helped him discover his untapped potential in serving others.
Looking forward to 2024, CYIZA Edmond is excited to continue his journey of personal and community development. He is eager to collaborate with FMI-UBUMUNTU Initiative, an organization dedicated to social change, human dignity, empowerment, and fostering strong community connections. He believes this initiative will serve as a crucial stepping stone in his pursuit of excellence and his mission to drive meaningful transformation in society.
