Jeannette Niyonkuru is a passionate and dedicated student at the University of Rwanda, Huye Campus, where she is currently pursuing her second year in the Social Work Department. With a strong commitment to understanding and addressing social issues, she aspires to use her education to create a meaningful impact on her community. Her academic journey is driven by a deep desire to acquire comprehensive knowledge and skills in social work, empowering her to support and uplift individuals and communities in need.

After completing her secondary school education in 2022, Jeannette actively participated in the Urugerero Program, a six-month national service initiative aimed at promoting social and economic development. During this time, she worked alongside fellow volunteers in various community-based activities, including repairing and reconstructing houses, building kitchen gardens, and engaging in physical development projects. This experience further solidified her passion for community service and social work.

In March 2023, Jeannette attended a specialized training program organized by UNICEF in Kanjongo Sector. The training focused on supporting young girls who experienced early pregnancies by providing them with domestic animals such as pigs and hens, as well as sewing tools like sewing machines. She also participated in teaching these young mothers about reproductive health, including safe practices and preventive measures such as condom use. Additionally, in 2022, she undertook a short training in agronomy, where she learned valuable skills such as making organic manure and constructing kitchen gardens (Akarima k’Igikoni).

Beyond her academic studies, Jeannette is an enthusiastic volunteer with the Friends of Motherland Initiative “Ubumuntu” (FMI Ubumuntu), where she brings a fresh perspective and a strong sense of dedication to the organization. Her role allows her to apply theoretical knowledge from her coursework to real-life situations, further developing her expertise in social work. Through her involvement with FMI, she actively contributes to projects focused on social welfare, environmental sustainability, and community development.

Jeannette is particularly passionate about social justice and equality, and she is deeply committed to advocating for marginalized and vulnerable populations. She works tirelessly to ensure that everyone has access to essential resources and opportunities, believing in a fair and just society where no one is left behind. Her empathy, resilience, and strong interpersonal skills make her a valuable team player and an effective advocate for social change.

Outside of her academic and volunteer commitments, Jeannette enjoys engaging in activities that promote personal growth and well-being, allowing her to maintain a balanced and fulfilling lifestyle. Her dedication to her studies, community service, and personal development all align with her ultimate vision of creating a more just, equitable, and empowered society.
